DrupalJam 2009 Enschede, March 20, 2009 – Byelex released a first glimpse of Opinion Miner, a Drupal based service for analyzing opinions and semantic metatagging in internet content. This promising new technology was received by an enthousiastic crowd of Drupal developers, intriqued by the possibilities it holds.
Built by a team of expert software developers with strategic business insight, Opinion Miner meets the needs of today's Marketing Managers, CEOs, Visionaries and other decision makers.
Open DoverOpinion Miner is the first web application to use Open Dover, the Java powered engine comprising of linguistic algorythms for semantically emotion tagging of web content.
Added value
There are blogs on almost any topic. There is a huge amount of information to sift through if you really need answers on strategic questions. But time is always short and marketing surveys are time-consuming and costly. Opinion Miner is all about mining for information and analyzing trends and opinions online.

Opinion Miner accurately scans the internet for articles within certain boundaries and parameters, 24 hours a day. These articles are extracted from feeds and tagged on various subjects (Yahoo Terms) and customized categories (Open Calais). From there the content is analyized for opinions and emotional constructs based on linguistic algorithms and logic and apply emotion tags (using Open Dover, from Byelex). This is where Drupal meets Java.
Opinion Miner helps researchers and executives leverage market research and enables them to scan, extract and tag very specific content from the internet. It allows them to see what people write about and how they feel about certain commercial propositions within hours.
The golden eggThe budgets spent before laying out strategic roadmaps and commercial decisions are enormous. Primarily because it's just a load of work done by prestigious market research companies, if we're talking big names, like Microsoft, Apple or Sony.
Now it's time to use the technologies we have and release it onto the biggest library the world has ever known: The Internet. Here are a few questions that may have costed a dime worth of research to find an answer for...
- Is Microsoft Windows Vista really as bad as everyone says?
- What makes Nintendo the no.1 game console?
- What do people feel after using Apple for one year?
- Do people with SUV's use more aspirins than other drivers?
- Which manufacturer would people buy their electric car from?
- Are people worried more about the environment when the effects have touched them personally?
- What do kids write about the next generation computer games?
CommunityWhile we will be looking at options of setting up both Open Dover as Opinion Miner as a service, we are very focussed on the strength the open source community has. Where Open Dover is solely based on Java, it interoperates with Opinion Miner's Drupal modules which we will be making making available to Drupal developers worldwide. A call for action and have everyone a go!
Check the Open Dover website for updates in the months to come.
